About the Greater From the perspective of square mileage covered, Jacksonville, Florida is the second largest city in America next to Juno, Alaska. In addition to its size, Jacksonville is a city of real beauty. With over eight miles of public beaches and the largest parks system in the country, Jacksonville is a natural haven for artists of all types. In the 1920s, Jacksonville produced a great deal of the silent films in America. Many of the Laurel and Hardy films, as well as the first black silent films, were made in Jacksonville. Today, the City of Jacksonville is an exciting place to be for artists of all types, real estate moguls, professional golfers, and businesses of all types. Downtown Jacksonville now hosts a monthly "Art Walk," with the cooperation of loyal companies, assertive, tenacious artists and forward-thinking city planners. However, the "Art Walk" is foremost the product of the artists' continuing effort to forge creative expression and opportunity. This type of event is common-place in a number of major cities. In Jacksonville, however, it is a sign of many artists' hard work and the great things to come for a city with one of the nation's greatest talent pools. Jacksonville truly is A City of Expression.
