Just for Potential Interns:
Hello and thank you for your interest in possibly working with iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville as an intern. Even though the magazine's title makes you think the publication only covers the Jacksonville arts scene, it doesn't. iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville covers a large area from Brunswick, GA to Lake City, FL to Gainesville, FL (and I suppose Ocala too) to St. Augustine, FL. The goal is to grow this publication to the point that separate daughter magazines are formed for each city covered, thus creating a network of arts magazines for the greater NE Florida/SE Georgia area.
Let me be upfront. iD Arts Magazine is a free venue for all artists and writers in the large area mentioned above. Internships are unpaid, however, there could be perks. Once the magazine is know in a given community, press passes should be able to be used to attend arts events at no charge, with the possibility of obtaining back stage passes. If this isn't payment enough for writing about local arts events, let me throw in a few extra perks.
I will provide you with a valuable internship reference and you will obtain valuable material for your resume and portfolio. If this still isn't enough incentive for you to work with such a fun publication, writing about what is comfortable for you and spending just a few moments to recount your experiences or handling business aspects including Web design, then iD Magazine is not the right internship for you. This being said, you can read on or stop.
There is a tremendous amount of information needed from all covered communities. iD's goal is promote the area's arts scene as well as the area itself. Arts organizations need to be persuaded to send information and images to be included on the site. Arts events need to be written about, everything from local musical acts to local artists' openings to local restaurant reviews. See the Jacksonville Area Arts menu to get an idea of all the arts categories that need to be covered. We are certain there are missing categories . . . please let us know what needs to be added.
This is the special behind the scenes page, where you see the planned expanded navigation and new interim logo to be introduced soon. Mainly, the iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville and About Greater Jacksonville menus are affected. This will let you know that even if you don't know that much about the arts, you may know something about the city in which you live or even about sports. Everything from government, economy, and neighborhoods to restaurants, night life, and attractions needs to be covered so that viewers from afar will actually want to visit if not move to the area after seeing the magazine.
So, this brief document paints a large picture: Large in area covered, large in scope of the arts, large in city information needed to sell the area. Do you see yourself having fun helping iD grow, getting your work published, gaining an excellent reference and resume material? If so, please choose several areas that you would like to cover and contact me at id2002@comcast.net. Thanks and take care as we prepare for you. All suggestions for improvements to the magazine are seriously considered and 20% commissions are paid for advertising sales!
