Explosion of the Arts In 1991, the Jacksonville, FL USA arts organization A City of Expression launched the Explosion of the Arts street festival, just two short months after the arts organization was established. Explosion of the Arts was the name given to our festival celebrating creative expression and launched a short-lived campaign of the arts. A City of Expression sponsored the festival with monies raised by selling t-shirts and advertising in the festival program named SPARK! (See Original Printed iDs in the iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville navigation menu located within the Navigation Station). With help from the City of Jacksonville, A City of Expression was able to throw a spectacular arts festival on one of the streets in Jacksonville's historic Five Points neighborhood, what is known as the city's arts district. We illuminated the street with lights purchased with fundraiser dollars and the festival showcased 40 visual artists of varying media and five local musical bands. To compliment this, a variety of street entertainment acts, including poets and performing artists, performed at the event showcased on two stages. Following the success of our first festival, Explosion of the Arts II was staged the next year. The festival was a celebration of all forms of creative expression: Visual arts, photography, poetry, music, dance, etc. Several other festivals (including a few music festivals and a chalk art festival for children) were sponsored by our organization before, unfortunately, A City of Expression disbanded for an unknown reason before Explosion of the Arts III could improve the local arts culture. Now we are attempting to reform the organization on a global level and Explosion of the Arts III has been saved as the name for the new A City of Expression's first worldwide arts festival to be held on Art Day 2009 (7-2-09) to be teamed with the return of the Green Edition of iD Magazine. Art is powerful, but a collective celebration of the various types of creative expression is an amazing sight and sound to behold. Total organization of the global arts community would be an awesome miracle that could change the world as we know it in a positive and peaceful manner. Explosion of the Arts III will be a showcase of any participating city's creativity and culture. Such artistic celebrations momentarily bring together the inspired gift of a community with a single cohesive bond. An Explosion of the Arts can invite new and unpolished talent to city centers, which will encourage many frustrated, lonely, or unguided youth to share their creative expressions with other artists, their community, and the world. Explosion of the Arts III will set the world on fire, hopefully before fighting nations do this with their juvenile, unacceptable bombs that accompany their inappropriate behavior. Silly wars, world peace is a painting away! Stare into Miss iD's eye long enough to hear what secret message she has for you. Give it up to her, absolutely, and personally feel the healing effects of the arts.
