The aim of A City of Expression was to rally a group of artists to invest themselves in the development of Jacksonville's arts community, and more specifically to create opportunities for expression while building bridges over racism and hatred. At the time, hate crimes were on the rise in the city, and A City of Expression's vision was to bring artists of all races together under a single umbrella of creative expression, unifying the city in which we lived and loved. Our goal was to help artists create and receive exposure -- if an artist meets a need, they will succeed. I believe artists are leaders in a community, and have a responsibility to the greater good of their audience and communities. If a writer pens hatred, then destruction is his legacy. I don't claim to define art for the world, but A City of Expression was founded to meet needs and launch creative careers. A City of Expression represents a city of hope, and unlimited potential for creative growth. A destiny must be envisioned before it is built.
To me, the modern A City of Expression (currently reforming) represents a global plan to unite the world with the healing effects of the arts. I wish to witness, in my lifetime, a realized longtime dream of iD Magazine totally organizing the global arts culture and changing the world as we know it for the better. I am patiently waiting to hold in my hands proof that the greater Jacksonville arts culture is in the process of being totally organized to act in a manner that demonstrates the power of the arts both locally and across the globe. I wish for Miss iD's eye to stare into the souls of everyone while requesting submission to her undying love of life. Miss iD represents all iD Arts Magazines (current and future) in addition to A City of Expression and is an early 1990's oil painting created by Clair Mead Hartmann, the woman responsible (as iD Magazine's original Creative Director) for making the early printed iD Magazines diamonds in the rough. Miss iD is now growing up quickly and needs changes that I can't effectively deal with by myself. Expect change after change after change until she evolves into the woman of which dreams are made, the woman that sets the world on fire. Her Mother Millennia art gallery will grow to become the world's largest art show ever and her Explosion of the Arts III global arts festival will unite the world with the power of organized art. I need for my future son, Randall Arthur Gebhardt (who will be known as "Art"), to be raised in a better environment than the one I have experienced to date. My son Art should know only a world of harmony, one in which the artists organized worldwide and changed everything for the best forever. He would be a child of iD, a new generation that will be unsurpassed. The power of art should not be dismissed! I feel certain that Miss iD will not allow this to happen. Please explore iD Arts Magazines, join the efforts of A City of Expression, and imagine a reality close at hand.
